Prince Albert Karoo Foodie Tour

KAROO FOOD…just those two words conjure up a mouth-watering smorgasbord of deliciousness in your mouth! So what is Karoo food exactly? Some say that its hard to define; that it does not fit into any modern mould. One thing is certain though – its good. REAL good. Karoo food is basic, hearty and homely. It is unpretentious, seasonal and simple.
Karoo chef and author, Gordon Wright, puts it best when he says “People who live here don’t even have to think about whether they’re buying organic or free-range products, because there is nothing else your food can be. It’s a mindset and way of life more than it is a conscious decision. It’s the most natural thing in the Karoo to know where your food comes from.”

Following our successful Country Life Karoo Cooks tour to Graaff Reinet and the Craddock Food Festival last year, Landscape Tours have partnered with African Relish in Prince Albert to offer our clients some more gastronomical delights that the Karoo has to offer.

Some highlights of this tour will include:

  • Cheese, olive and olive oil tasting
  • Meeting a nearby organic vegetable farmer
  • Tasting biltong and droewors at a local butcher
  • Knife making and sharpening with a resident artist and artisan
  • A village farm that makes world class wine from a hectare of vineyard
  • The art of foraging as well as a fig tour
  • An astronomy talk and ghost walk
  • Karoo tapas and Karoo-on-a-plate cooking classes in the African Relish kitchen

We are going to limit the number of participants to not more than 8 people in order to keep the tour comfortable and intimate.
