Zanzibar (8 Days)

Zanzibar's beauty, exotic mix of Arab and African cultures, and infamous role in the slave trade has given its name an aura of mystery and dark romance. Today it is a young democracy and a magnet for honeymooners and other holidaymakers. They enjoy its aquamarine surf, exquisite beaches, and balmy climate. So will we of course - but we'll do so much more - touring the length and breadth of the main island, smaller islands.
You will be in a small group with your Landscape tour leader and local guides. We fly in from JNB/CPT, stay at fine accommodation throughout, and travel around the island by small coach. In Stone Town (3 nts) we go sightseeing and browsing in the maze of narrow streets. We'll see the sad evidence of the slave trade and soak up the vibrant port atmosphere. We travel out into the countryside - seeing small villages and learning about the spice plants for which Zanzibar is famous. We'll stroll in tropical forest amid the huge trees, seeing the rare Red Colobus monkey and butterflies.
In the unspoiled southwest corner (2 nts) we'll enjoy quiet beaches and sail over to an uninhabited island to play at Robinson Crusoe and enjoy a seafood lunch on the beach. In the north-eastern corner (2 nts) we'll indulge ourselves at a luxurious resort and visit famous Nungwi beach, where they build the iconic wooden dhows by hand. And so on …. When you return, Zanzibar will no longer be a mystery, but we feel sure the romance will continue.
