- About Us
In remote Eastern Zambia, the wide Luangwa River snakes lazily through pristine African scenery teeming with wildlife and totally unspoilt by man. It gives its name to a National Park that ranks as one of the finest game-viewing areas on the continent, with a high density and diversity of wildlife including large numbers of leopard and lion. The low visitor numbers contributes to the exclusive nature of this encounter with wildest Africa.
We go on open vehicle game drives during the day, and also at night, and have the option of taking part in an exciting walking safari. There are large herds of buffalo and elephant, and puku, southern water-buck, oribi, roan and sable antelope, impala, kudu, eland, lechwe, and many other species. The local bird list exceeds 350. The riverine areas are home to huge numbers of hippo and crocodile, a sign that conservation is working and that here we are deep in untamed Africa, free from the influence of man.
With our tour leader you’ll fly to Lusaka, and by light aircraft into the small town of Mfuwe. We stay at Flatdogs Camp, right on the banks of the Luangwa River. (”Flat Dog” is the local name for a crocodile!) It’s one of the original camps in Luangwa, known for its welcoming atmosphere, good service and superb setting. The safari driver-guides, with their knowledge, experience and friendly manner, open a window into this wildlife paradise. All this, combined with excellent accommodation, service and guiding, makes South Luangwa a “must do” safari destination.
