Namibia - The Deep
South (9 Days)
Our new Southern Namibia tour focuses on the images and
experiences of legend: vast open vistas; wild and lonely
landscapes; the stark contrasts of sea, sky and ancient desert
coastline. This 9-day tour shows you a cross-section of
spectacular desert landscapes, allowing you to savour it all at
your own pace. Highlights include the stark wilderness north of
the Orange River, historical Luderitz and its Kolmanskop 'ghost
town', the red dunes of the Koichab pan in the Namib Desert, a
visit to Keetmanshoop, and the spectacular Fish River Canyon. We
drive from Cape Town into Namaqualand for our first night. Then
on to Sendelingsdrif on the Orange River, where we sample the
magic of the Richtersveld. Next day we cross the Orange by pont
and head north to Aus. At Aus we stay at a lodge on a farm (3nts), famous as a base from which to see the wild horses of the
Namib. You can walk or stroll in the wild country-side
surrounding the lodge, or just sit on the veranda of your chalet
and enjoy the absolute quiet of the desert. While based here we
head for the old colonial town of Luderitz for a day, and bring
to life the colourful history of the diamond rush and German
South West Africa. Another day we do a 4x4 safari into a
spectacular part of the Namib desert and rocky highlands. From
Aus we move south to the Canyon Lodge (2nt), set amongst huge
granite boulders, and see the world famous Fish River Canyon -
one of the largest canyons in the world. We stay in Namaqualand
for our last night en route back to Cape Town.
