Kalahari Nature Safari (10 Days)

This 10-day tour covers the vast sweep of the North-western Cape, with its superb desert and semi-desert scenery and magnificent dry climate. It is designed for those who like to savour moments of tranquillity and beauty, who love nature, and who find fascination in little out-of-the-way places (such as the great metropolis of Pofadder!).

We head north on one of the country's most scenic roads - leaving the verdant Cape for the semi-desert of Namaqualand, and staying tonight at Kamieskroon (1 nt) amidst the huge rocks. Next day we really do visit Pofadder, and Pella (smaller still!) - staying nearby at a lovely guestfarm in an idyllic setting (1 nt). At Augrabies Falls National Park (2 nts) there will be opportunities for extended strolls in the haunting 'moon-landscape' next to the river and canyon, and of course near the Falls itself. Or if you prefer to, just sit still and absorb the silence.

We head to our major highlight, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (previously Kalahari Gemsbok Park) (3 nts), staying at Twee Rivieren camp and Nossob or Kalahari tented camps. We will take daytime game drives, and night drives are an optional extra. We return via Upington (1 nt) and across the plains of Bushman-land, staying en route at Calvinia (1 nt) - a lovely destination in its own right.
